Lies Like Poison

By Chelsea Pitcher

Expected publication: November 10, 2020

Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry Books

ISBN – 1534470956

Synopsis: Poppy, Lily, and Belladonna would do anything to protect their best friend, Raven. So when they discovered he was suffering abuse at the hands of his stepmother, they came up with a lethal plan: petals of poppy, belladonna, and lily in her evening tea so she’d never be able to hurt Raven again. But someone got cold feet, the plot faded to a secret of the past, and the group fell apart.

Three years later, on the eve of Raven’s seventeenth birthday, his stepmother turns up dead. But it’s only belladonna found in her tea, it’s only Belladonna who’s carted off to jail. Desperate for help, Belle reaches out to her estranged friends to prove her innocence. They answer the call, but no one is prepared for what comes next.

Now, everyone has something to lose and something equally dangerous to hide. And when the tangled web of secrets and betrayal is finally unwound, what lies at its heart will change the group forever.

I want to thank NetGalley and The Book Terminal Tours the opportunity to read the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

I really like this book, I am a big fan of thriller/mystery books and I have been trying to find more YA books in the genre and Lies Like Poison hit the mark. The story is based on the mystery of who murdered and four best friend trying to help their friend who is being accused of committing the murdered. This book not is a mystery book, but deals with mental health and queer characters which you see them overcome what everyone else in their town and life expects them to be. What I like the most was that the author gave each of them a chance to tell their story in the book. It wasn’t just stated that they were queer but gave us a information on each one of them.

In the beginning of the book, you do question who actually killed the stepmother because everyone have different stories on where they were and the truth. The story had a lot of twist and turns which kept you reading on finding out who killed the stepmother. I was totally shocked on who actually did the murdered and it wasn’t who I thought it would be.

If you are looking for a YA thriller/mystery book with LBGTQ representation then I would definitely recommend this book.

If you are looking for a supernatural horror story than Sisters of the Moon is a perfect book especially with Halloween coming up this book would go nicely in October TBR.

Three women, Durra, Emily, and Leida are sold to pay others’ taxes and they are taken to a convent on Die Watcher Island. The convent is run by Mother Amelia and they follow the Order of Saint Gertrude. She is the matron saint of cats and protector of women.

The nuns and convent do not appear to be what the three women thought it is. They are told not to go out at night and not to listen to any howling they hear in the night. Durra is curious about what is going on in the convent and why they are so isolated. She is granted permission to read in library and there id where she research about the convent.

Sisters of the Moon is horror story on the surface but it is also a story about sisterhood and the empowerment of women.

Rating: 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬

Chasing Starlight is a fun read and the murder mystery part of the book was really good in the way that the plot twist kept you guessing who was the murderer. The setting of Golden Age of Hollywood was perfect for this book. The way Teri Bailey Black wrote the book you can picture all of the scenes in Old Hollywood time and see the characters come to life. That what I enjoyed reading her books because I can visualize everything by her words.

I loved all of the characters in the books but my favorite would be Kate because you could see she was struggling with her past but she wouldn’t let it stop her from finding out who was the murderer. You could see that Kate was growing throughout the book and trying to overcame her fears at the end.

I was surprised to find out who the murderer was at the end of the book. Definitely didn’t think it was that person who did it but thinking back it did make sense that they were the one.

Definitely would recommend Chasing Starlight if you like historical fiction based in the Old Hollywood time period and like murder mysteries.

Honestly, I can’t wait to see what Teri Bailey Black writes next.

Review

If you are looking for a complex eerie mystery story that gives you The Phantom of Opera vibes then this book is for you. I enjoy reading a good mystery book that has some romance intertwine in the storyline. The Redpoint Crux gives this to you and more.

The story was written well that you can see all of the characters come to life and the mystery part of the story keeps you wondering what is going to happen next. The romance was not overwhelming and it was done nicely where it kept you on the edge of your seat about these two complex people.

Blog Tour – Girl With A Rose by Lesile Wolfe (Review & Giveaway)

Girl With a Rose
Tess Winnett Book 6
by Leslie Wolfe
Genre: Thriller, Crime Suspense
Her body is frozen, unable to move. Her eyes are locked on the blood leaving her body in a steady string of droplets, collecting in the bone ash porcelain bowl engraved with intricate gold leaves. Her parted lips let out a shriek that no one hears. He just smiles and wipes her tears with cold fingers.
“Wow. I think I just fell head over heels in love with a fictional character. Tess Winnett is one of the smartest FBI agents and profilers I have come across yet and with analytical skills to rival Sherlock Holmes. Hats off to Leslie Wolfe for easily the best thriller I have read in this genre for many, many years!” – Manie Kilianon, five stars review on Amazon.
The girl: missing
After fifteen-year-old Kaylee disappears without a trace, FBI Special Agent Tess Winnett is assigned to the case that falls outside of the normal purview of the FBI. With every lead she uncovers, more questions are posed with only one possible, terrifying answer: there are others like her who have vanished, never to be seen or heard from again.
Is there a pattern in these disappearances? What happened to the others who have vanished? Is there a connection, or is Tess chasing shadows?
The first twenty-four hours: critical
Frantic for answers and painfully aware of each passing moment, Tess has a choice to make, one that could save the life of a young girl: was Kaylee’s disappearance a singular event, or was she the latest victim of a serial killer no one knew existed?
The odds of finding the girl alive drop with every second passing by and making the wrong choice would seal her fate. Her blood would be on her hands.
The best-selling author of Dawn Girl is back with another suspenseful, gripping crime thriller. If you’re a fan of David Baldacci, Melinda Leigh, and James Patterson, you will enjoy Leslie Wolfe’s enthralling police procedural that will keep you reading until the last page.
What Readers and Reviewers Are Saying About Leslie Wolfe
“Wolfe’s strong female characters, who all appear to be flawed, never disappoint. ”

What I was able to read I thought the book was good and get an idea that I would have enjoyed it if my copy wasn’t messed up. I will definitely buying a copy when it comes out on Tuesday. What I read, I thought the author did a good job in writing and highlighting the darkest events that were happening to young girls in the 20th century.

The story is told in multiple POV but the main story revolves around Annie Hebbley, she was a stewardess on the Titanic when it had sunk. She had survive and 4 years later she finds herself in the Britannic as a nurse during the WWI. The story goes between the events on the Titanic in flashbacks while Annie is working on Britannic which has been converted into a ship hospital that brings back memories of her time on the Titantic and meeting Mark Fletcher. Annie has connection and is pulled toward Mark and his daughter Ondine.

The story started out slow but it pickup in the second half of the book. The author introduce supporting characters who were real life passengers of the Titanic which made the storyline interesting. The book gives the readers in the first half background of Annie, Mark Fletcher and his wife and why they came to be on the Titantic.

I enjoyed the book with its historical story with paranormal mix into it. It kept the story going and I didn’t expect the story to end the way it did. I becams invested in the story and wanting to know what would happen to everyone on the Britannic.
