Life Update

Hi Everyone! It has been awhile since I have posted on my blog…a whole freaking year!!! There is a reason why…during COVID quarantine, I lost interest in reading. Honestly, my mental health wasn’t the best and reading wasn’t giving me what I needed at the time so I picked up on other things to help me such as watching K-Drama, cross stitching and becoming a BTS army💜💜!

But I am slowly getting back to reading again but this time I am allowing my moods to pick what I want to read which is working and not setting a reading goal is helping with not feeling pressure to read.

I setup this blog because I wanted to share books and authors I really enjoy reading. I wanted it to be fun too but it turn out to be more stressful because of trying post on daily basis. It became more of part time job instead of being something to do for fun.

I am changing my blog to not just be about books, authors I love but going to try to include the things that help me get thru these past two years that gave me happiness and help me. I can’t promise to post on daily or weekly basis but I will try to post on monthly basis. I will try not to disappeared again 😊.

Hope everyone is doing well and try to enjoy the summer!

Mera: Tidebreaker by Danielle Paige E-Arc Review

Published Date: April 2, 2019

Publisher: DC Ink

Stars: 4 out 5

Mera and Aquaman origin story that explores Mera’s first steps on land as well as her first steps ad a hero or villian, forcing her to choose to follow her heart or her mission to kill.

Mera is teenage royalty, heir to the throne of Xebel, the other not-so-lost colony under the sea. But Mera is destined to wear a different crown, that of Atlantis. When the inhabitants of Xebel plot to overthrow their homeland of Atlantis, Mera is sent to kill the heir to the throne, Arthur Curry. As the unrest between their colonies grows, Mera and Arthur unexpectedly fall in love…will Arthur Curry be the king at Mera’s side in Atlantis, or will he die under her blade?

***Recieved this e-Arc from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review***

Growing up as kid, I knew about Aquaman but not mention about Mera, so I was interested in reading the graphic novel about her and Aquaman origins. I was excited to get the opportunity from the publisher to read and review the story.

First I have to say that the artwork in graphic novel was stunning. The look of pages made it easy to read and follow along with the story.

The graphic novel did give a good backstory of Mera and told her story on why she wanted to be seen as a strong warrior and independent person that would be worthy to rule the kingdom when the time came. She wanted to prove that she could and was as strong warrior like her mother was. Also she wanted to prove to her father that he could depend on her to take the lead and action when call upon and she didn’t need to depend upon anyone. Her character was intriguing, very immature and headstrong, but she also show a softer side who was concern on making the right decision.

I do have a couple complaints about the story.

First, there wasn’t any backstory on why the Xebel and Atlantis were at war with each other and there were the no explanation on why it all happened. It would have been nice to have brief backstory on why killing Authur was important.

Second, I did not enjoy the instalove. I don’t believe it was necessary for Mera and Authur to fall in love in such a short time period. I think the story could have just had them become friends who need to get to know and understand each before it led into instalove.

Overall, I gave the graphic novel 4 out 5 stars.

If you read the graphic novel, what did you think of it? What did you like or dislike about it?

March 2019 Wrap Up & Book Haul

Hello! Well it has been awhile since I posted on here…sorry life sort of gotten in the way of me blogging regularly. But I am going to do better in posting and have setup a schedule to make sure I meet my posting goals.

March Reading Wrap-Up

For the last two months, I have been in a reading slump. In February, I only read 2 books and then this month I read 4 books. I am hoping that April will be a better reading month.

But my readinf slump didn’t stop me from buying books. My March book haul. Sort went a little crazy with buying last month…I guess I was making up for not buying a lot in February. I blame Book Outlet and B&N for having good sales.

Did you meet your March reading goals? How do you get out of a reading slump? Did you buy any books in March? Which ones did you get?

2019 Reading Goals

Looking back on my reading challenge in Goodreads for 2018 and I am happy with what I did accomplished from May 2018 when I started the challenge. Compare to 2017 and previous years, I did really good…I didn’t read anything but textbooks for the last 6 years which I didn’t record any of those readings in Goodreads.  I can’t believe that I read 14,513 pages this year, I hope to accomplish more reading in 2019.

2018 reading journey

Reading Challenges that I am participating this year are:

  • TBR and Beyond – Yearly Reading Challenge: I am moderator for TBR and Beyond Facebook group and we are running a yearly reading challenge in the group. I hoping to get a lot of the 32 items done by the end of 2019.
  • The 2019 Modern Mrs. Darcy Reading Challenge: Another challenge that I am going to do is Modern Mrs. Darcy reading challenge. It seems to be an interesting challenge which help me read different types of books that I haven’t in the past.
  • Goodreads 2019 Reading Challenge: I have set my reading challenge on Goodreads from 37 books to 100 books. Let see if I can come close or even meet the 100 books.

  • Book Series: This year I want to finish all of the series books that I had started but never finished. I decided that I need to complete all of my unfinished series collection. My plan to include the one book from the series into my monthly TBR and I am hoping that will help me finish up with different series I have on my book shelf. Here are some of the series that I want to complete in 2019:
    • Cassandra Clare:
      • The Infernal Devices series
      • The Dark Artifices series
    • Sarah J. Maas:
      • Throne of Glass series
    • Alison Goodman:
      • Lady Helen series
    • Laini Taylor:
      • Strange the Dreamer series
      • Daughter of Smoke & Bones series
    • Leigh Bardugo:
      • Grishaverse series (Six of Crows)
  • Audiobooks: I want to increase my audiobooks collection, I am going to get a couple of my physical books in the audio version so that I can read them while I am at work, home (when cleaning and doing laundry), and driving long distance.
  • Backlist: Going to try to read some my older books that I have been on my shelf for a long time. Let’s see if I can accomplish that with all of the great new books coming out in 2019.
  • Reading Time goal: Setting time in the morning, afternoon and nighttime to read about 15 to 20 minutes day. Also going to read two books per week to get accomplish my TBR every month (crossing my fingers)

This all of my reading challenges and goals for 2019. Hoping that I will get majority of them done.

Welcome to my new blog!

Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my new book blog! I decided to start a blog to share my love of books and anything that holds my interest. I restarted reading books for pleasure instead of reading for college, I recently graduated with my Master degree in May and I decided it was time to get back into reading the books I love and am passion about. I thought creating this blog would keep me on track on my reading goals and reviewing/showcasing the books for others who would be interested in reading them.

I started to review e-arcs from Net Gallery which I will be posting on here, Amazon, my Goodreads, and my Instagram account.

Hope you all will follow me on my new adventure!
