If you are looking for a supernatural horror story than Sisters of the Moon is a perfect book especially with Halloween coming up this book would go nicely in October TBR.

Three women, Durra, Emily, and Leida are sold to pay others’ taxes and they are taken to a convent on Die Watcher Island. The convent is run by Mother Amelia and they follow the Order of Saint Gertrude. She is the matron saint of cats and protector of women.

The nuns and convent do not appear to be what the three women thought it is. They are told not to go out at night and not to listen to any howling they hear in the night. Durra is curious about what is going on in the convent and why they are so isolated. She is granted permission to read in library and there id where she research about the convent.

Sisters of the Moon is horror story on the surface but it is also a story about sisterhood and the empowerment of women.

About the Author

Rena Barron grew up in small-town Alabama where stories of magic and adventure sparked her imagination. After penning her first awful poem in middle school, she graduated to writing short stories and novels by high school.

From a very young age she loved reading stories where kids saved the world, tamed dragons, wielded magic, flew spaceships, became the chosen one. She desperately searched for characters in books who looked like her and was always disappointed to find none, which fueled her early interest in writing.

Before HarperTeen acquired her Young Adult Epic Fantasy, Kingdom of Souls, Rena spent 10 years in the query trends–writing across multiple genres and age groups in the pursuit of publication. In 2017, she entered Pitch Wars, a popular and highly sought-after online mentorship program that included an agent showcase round. Rena’s entry (then titled “The Last Witchdoctor”) received multiple offers of representation. She signed with Suzie Townsend at New Leaf Literary shortly after, and the manuscript went on to sell in a heated auction.

In addition to the Kingdom of Souls series, Rena also has written a middle grade epic fantasy titled Maya and The Rising Dark debuting in Spring 2020, pitched as Stranger Things meets Percy Jackson, that sold in a pre-empt to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. On a personal note, Rena loves all things science fiction and fantasy, ghosts, and superheroes. When she’s not writing, she can be found reading or brushing up on her French.

Rating: 👑👑👑👑

I was looking forward to the second book in the duology because I adore the characters from A Touch of Gold. It was nice to step back into the world of King Midas and Kora.

I enjoyed A Curse of Gold and seeing the return of my favorite characters from the first book and getting new characters like Triton, son of Poseidon (he became one of my favorites).

I thought Kora grew a lot in the first book but she definitely shows more growth in this book. She goes from being a Princess who is hidden away to becoming a strong leader who doesn’t shy away from accomplishing her mission to save her people and kingdom.

If you love adventure, pirates, monsters and romance then I recommend you pickup both A Touch of Gold and A Curse of Gold.

Favorite Quotes

“You’re a great leader. You’re willing to face down the Great Oracle for them.”

“There will always be threats, but you’re willing to face them. Don’t forget that. Everyone wants a leader who fights for them.”

Rating: 🎬🎬🎬🎬🎬

Chasing Starlight is a fun read and the murder mystery part of the book was really good in the way that the plot twist kept you guessing who was the murderer. The setting of Golden Age of Hollywood was perfect for this book. The way Teri Bailey Black wrote the book you can picture all of the scenes in Old Hollywood time and see the characters come to life. That what I enjoyed reading her books because I can visualize everything by her words.

I loved all of the characters in the books but my favorite would be Kate because you could see she was struggling with her past but she wouldn’t let it stop her from finding out who was the murderer. You could see that Kate was growing throughout the book and trying to overcame her fears at the end.

I was surprised to find out who the murderer was at the end of the book. Definitely didn’t think it was that person who did it but thinking back it did make sense that they were the one.

Definitely would recommend Chasing Starlight if you like historical fiction based in the Old Hollywood time period and like murder mysteries.

Honestly, I can’t wait to see what Teri Bailey Black writes next.
